Creative responses to the Covid-19 pandemic – my article for The British Library’s Covid Stories

Covid Stories uses material from across The British Library’s collections to highlight a variety of perspectives and reflections on the pandemic in the UK. These are grouped into reflective articles, each featuring a number of accessible ‘collection items’ to promote thought and discussion on this momentous period in our shared history. Covid Stories was funded by UKRI AHRC as part of the ‘NHS Voices of Covid-19’ project.

In my article for Covid Stories, titled “Creative responses to the Covid-19 pandemic“, I look at some of the creative ways people responded to and processed the impact of the pandemic on their lives.

Many thanks to Dr Madeline White, Deputy Director of National Life Stories & Curator, Oral History, The British Library, for inviting me to contribute to this important project, and for her thoughtful and careful editorial and curatorial work.

Many of the oral history recordings from Voices of Our National Health Service can be heard online in full on the British Library Sounds website. Full summaries of the oral history recordings can be word searched on the Sound and Moving Image Catalogue.

More information on all of the British Library Covid-19 collections can be found in the Covid-19 Collection Guide.
